CCTV.com – Xinwen Lianbo – The rapid development of China’s new quality productive forces is not only driving the digital transformation and upgrading of industries, but also creating new employment opportunities. A number of emerging occupations are “taking off” alongside breakthroughs in new technologies.
Recently, in the streets and alleys of Hefei, autonomous vehicle mapping technicians Gao Tianlai and Liu Hailong have been collecting map data to provide the foundational information needed for high-precision map production. When their mapping vehicle cannot reach certain areas, they take turns carrying more than 30 kilograms of equipment and complete the task by bicycle.
With the rapid progress of China’s autonomous driving technology, mapping technicians and data annotation specialists have emerged as new professions, offering more job choices for young people like Gao Tianlai.
In recent years, the continued empowerment of industries through artificial intelligence, the internet, and big data has significantly expanded both the range and nature of occupations. New professions such as AI trainers, digital twin application engineers, and business data analysts are constantly appearing, further promoting the growth of new quality productive forces.
At the world’s first “smart zero-carbon” terminal in Tianjin Port, 92 unmanned transport robots—each 15.6 meters long—are responsible for transferring containers. They automatically move, avoid obstacles, and make turns, performing hundreds of information exchanges with surrounding equipment during each run. Fan Chunqi has become one of the terminal’s first system optimization engineers.
By continuously updating algorithms based on big data, Fan optimizes the transport robots’ travel paths, reducing the following distance from the original 12 meters to 6 meters. This ensures the terminal—capable of handling more than 2 million TEUs annually—operates with maximum efficiency.
Recently, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security released the sixth batch of new occupation classifications. These new professions and job types align closely with the development needs of the digital economy, intelligent manufacturing, and information technology sectors—with nearly half belonging to digital occupations. This year, nine national departments jointly issued an action plan to accelerate the cultivation of digital talent to support the growth of the digital economy.
