On January 17, Rainbow Supermarket officially launched its first autonomous delivery service in collaboration with Rino.ai, a leading autonomous delivery company in China. The service debuted in Pingshan District, Shenzhen. With staff placing packed goods into the vehicle, the adorably designed “Xiao Hong” car departed the store, marking a new chapter in Rainbow’s intelligent delivery journey.
With this milestone, Rainbow becomes the first brick-and-mortar retail enterprise in Shenzhen to deploy autonomous delivery vehicles. The adoption of unmanned delivery marks a major upgrade in Rainbow’s smart home-delivery system, laying the foundation for a new community-based logistics network.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, online shopping has surged, pushing retailers to explore safer, more efficient delivery methods. Ensuring high service quality while minimizing human contact has become a pressing challenge. Autonomous delivery vehicles present a promising solution, and Rainbow’s early adoption highlights its commitment to operational innovation and superior customer experience.
Rino.ai is recognized as the first autonomous driving company in China to operate unmanned delivery for fresh groceries on public urban roads. The company has already achieved routine operation in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, and now extends that success to Shenzhen through this new partnership with Rainbow.
