Recently, Yangquan City deployed its first autonomous police patrol vehicle for trial operations, marking not only the addition of technological support to road patrols but also a new stage in the city’s development of smart policing. The compact blue-and-white patrol vehicle navigates the streets of the county, becoming a distinctive sight on urban roads.

Despite its small size, the vehicle is packed with advanced capabilities. It is equipped with high-precision LiDAR, an eight-camera panoramic system, and an intelligent voice broadcast system, effectively giving it “eyes,” “ears,” and a “voice.” The vehicle can perform 360° panoramic patrols, accurately perceiving its surroundings, detecting pedestrians, vehicles, road conditions, and potential safety hazards. Even in complex urban streets or low-light nighttime environments, the patrol vehicle can operate reliably, achieving autonomous, all-weather patrolling.

Assistant officer Yin Jun from the County Public Security Traffic Police Team explained that the autonomous patrol vehicle is equipped with full-range LiDAR and an eight-camera panoramic system, enabling 360° panoramic patrol and real-time image capture. It can, for example, issue reminders to electric bike riders not wearing helmets and capture alerts for illegal roadside parking.

The vehicle also features a remote voice broadcast function, allowing officers to address violations detected during patrols. Following pre-set routes, it autonomously collects and transmits live footage and data. In the event of any abnormal situation, the system automatically sends alerts to the command center, significantly improving policing response efficiency.

Yin Jun added, “The vehicle is currently undergoing patrol testing around Yangquan North Station, Jinlong East-West Street, and Xiushui East-West Street. It has captured numerous cases of illegal parking and cyclists riding without helmets. Testing is expected to be completed by February, after which it will officially go into service.”

This autonomous patrol vehicle serves not only as a “technological vanguard” for law enforcement but also as a mobile public service station. Its high-definition display screens continuously broadcast traffic safety, anti-fraud, and public awareness messages, integrating legal education into daily life. In emergencies, citizens can use a one-touch alert function to initiate video calls with command center officers. Additionally, the vehicle’s emergency supply compartment is stocked with fire extinguishers, medical kits, and other resources to provide timely assistance to the public.

Yin Jun concluded, “The deployment of these ‘smart new officers’ will significantly enhance the efficiency and precision of traffic police patrols in Yuxian County. Not only does it equip our traffic management with a technological engine, but it also strengthens the safety network for the county. Moving forward, we will gradually expand the patrol coverage in line with operational needs, leveraging technology to create a safer, smoother, and more orderly modern traffic environment for our citizens.”
