On April 23, China’s Ministry of Transport announced the second batch of intelligent transportation pilot projects. Rino.ai’s autonomous driving technology was successfully selected for two national-level projects: the “Shanghai Lingang Urban Mobility and Logistics Autonomous Driving Pilot” and the “Chongqing Yongchuan Urban Mobility and Logistics Autonomous Driving Pilot.”
This marks Rino.ai’s second inclusion in the program, following its first selection in September 2022 for the “Shanghai Fengxian Urban Mobility and Logistics Autonomous Driving Pilot.”
Yen Ming, Rino.ai’s Head of Regional Government Affairs, commented:
“Being selected again reflects the high recognition from the Ministry of Transport and the State Post Bureau for logistics-oriented autonomous driving application scenarios. It also represents a major breakthrough in our unmanned logistics delivery practices. Next, we will work with our partners to deepen technical research and demonstration applications across express delivery, logistics, and retail sectors. We will do our utmost to complete the pilot projects, create benchmark cases, promote the deep integration of next-generation autonomous driving technology with logistics delivery services, and drive innovative applications of new transportation infrastructure in the logistics sector—contributing to the building of a strong transportation nation.”
Building a Replicable, Scalable “Rino.ai Model”
The intelligent transportation pilot program originates from the Five-Year Action Plan (2023–2027) to Accelerate the Building of a Strong Transportation Nation, jointly issued by the Ministry of Transport, the National Railway Administration, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the State Post Bureau, and China State Railway Group.
The program will select 50 representative projects nationwide in fields such as autonomous driving, intelligent shipping, and smart construction, aiming to accelerate the development of smart transportation.
Selected projects will be subject to full-cycle tracking and management, with centralized reviews, public showcases, and dissemination of results. The program seeks to create replicable, scalable cases and distill them into technical guidelines and standards, fostering the development of new business models through a “pilot-first” approach.
Autonomous Driving: A Key Engine for Smart Transportation
Autonomous driving is a core innovation area in intelligent transportation—serving as a key driver for building a strong transportation nation, a science and technology powerhouse, and a digital China, as well as an essential domain for sustainable transportation.
As a primary participant in the Shanghai Lingang and Chongqing Yongchuan autonomous driving pilots, Rino.ai has operated commercial unmanned logistics delivery services in both cities for over three years. During this time, the company has continuously upgraded its L4 autonomous driving technology through real-world operations, enriching its experience in commercializing driverless vehicles.
Leveraging its deep market presence in Shanghai and Chongqing, Rino.ai’s participation in the national pilot program will help local governments:
Focus more effectively on community-oriented logistics scenarios
Enhance logistics intelligence through autonomous driving
Establish operational supervision mechanisms
Develop standards for autonomous driving and unmanned delivery services
This will accelerate the large-scale commercialization of autonomous logistics delivery services in both regions, creating a replicable, scalable “Rino.ai Model” for the industry.
